Topological phase in Gaussian beam optics.

چکیده
The evolution of a complex beam width parameter g describing focusing or defocusing of a paraxial Gaussian beam is considered as the cause of an additional topological (Berry) phase of the electromagnetic f ield associated with the beam. It is pointed out that the well-known Gouy phase is a special case of such a phase that should arise in general in all symplectic systems. 1995 Optical Society of America

ABCD matrix for reflection and refraction of laser beam at tilted concave and convex elliptic paraboloid interfaces and studying laser beam reflection from a tilted concave parabola of revolution
Studying Gaussian beam is a method to investigate laser beam propagation and ABCD matrix is a fast and simple method to simulate Gaussian beam propagation in different mediums. Of the ABCD matrices studied so far, reflection and refraction matrices at various surfaces have attracted a lot of researches. However in previous work the incident beam and the principle axis of surface are in parallel...
متن کاملUse of a Two-Channel Moiré Wavefront Sensor for Measuring Topological Charge Sign of the Vortex Beam and Investigation of Its Change Due to an Odd Number of Reflections
One of the solutions of the Helmholtz equation is the vortex beams. In the recent decades, production and applications of these types of beams have found serious attentions. Determination of the vortex beam topological charge and its sign are very important issues. Odd number of reflections of the vortex beam changes its vorticity. In this paper, we have used a q-plate to generate a vortex beam...
متن کاملThe ray packet equivalent of a Gaussian light beam.
A packet of light rays is defined that is equivalent to a Gaussian beam of light. The transformation of the Gaussian beam as it passes through any combination of perfect lenses and flat dielectric interfaces can be found by applying geometric optics to the equivalent ray packet.. The envelope of the ray packet gives the Gaussian beam spot size and the curves perpendicular to the average ray slo...
متن کاملGiant Goos-Häenchen Shift of a Gaussian Beam Reflected from One-Dimensional Photonic Crystals Containing Left-Handed Lossy Metamaterials
We perform a theoretical investigation on the Goos-Häenchen shift (the lateral shift) in one-dimensional photonic crystals (1DPCs) containing left-handed (LH) metamaterials. The effect was studied by use of a Gaussian beam. We show that the giant lateral displacement is due to the localization of the electromagnetic wave which can be both positive and negative depending on the incidence angle o...
متن کاملDynamics of a paired optical vortex generated by second-harmonic generation.
We study the dynamics of a paired optical vortex (OV) generated by second-harmonic generation (SHG) using sub-picosecond pulses. By changing the position of a thin nonlinear crystal along the propagation direction, we observe a rotation of two vortices with changing separation distance. The dynamics is well explained by SHG with a beam walk-off, which introduces a contamination of zero-order La...
